A small group of Christians began meeting regularly in the late 1940s in Princeton. The first full-time minister, Ervy Boothe, came in 1963. He had planted a congregation in Allentown, PA, from 1955 and 1963. Under the leadership of Brother Boothe, the congregation grew and built the present building where we meet by 1971. Ervy Boothe resigned as a minister in the mid-1970s and served as an elder until the late 1990s.

Bill Bowen was hired as a full-time pulpit minister after Ervy’s resignation. In late 1974, Bill left Princeton after a few years to take a position at Northeast Christian Junior College near Villanova, Pennsylvania. Wayne Crump succeeded him.  When he was hired, Wayne was a recent graduate of the Princeton Theological Seminary.

In late 1980, Tom Turnbull was hired to start campus work and to preach part-time. Tom and Wayne overlapped until Wayne left to become the pulpit minister at 16th and Decatur St Church of Christ in Washington, D.C.

Later Tom was joined by Scott Chase and Scott Bell as campus ministers at Rutgers University, Princeton University, and the College of New Jersey. Many college students and young professionals were converted to Christ through their efforts. This led to sending many members to plant what became the Central Jersey Church of Christ. Tom Turnball was joined by other members from Princeton when he went to Paris, France, where they planted a congregation.

Tom Reynolds came from the University Church of Christ in Denver, CO, to preach and work on the Princeton University campus. Tom renewed the growth of the congregation and stayed with the congregation until the 1990s.  Bruce Wadzeck, who had worked with Tom at the University Church of Christ in Denver, CO, joined the work in 1988. The congregation created a Divorce Recovery ministry that reached many people. Another ministry was learning English through a study of the Bible which reached many Hispanics who were immigrants. We concentrated on evangelistic Home Bible studies that resulted in many converts to Christ. We helped plant a half dozen Spanish-speaking congregations throughout New Jersey. In the 2000's we helped about 30 members plant a Phillipino-speaking congregation. 

The congregation was blessed to have good leadership from our many elders over the years. We are grateful to Ervy Boothe, Ken Stone, Dick Chandler, Stan McNally, Gordon Malick, Ed Bellow, Ed Davies, Harry Westerholm, Bruce Wadzeck, Dan Rich, and Andy Pratt for serving as elders and guiding the congregation through exciting good times and through challenging, difficult times. The congregation has converted and developed men who have gone into the full-time ministry, like Brock Roby, Mark Steiner, Kelly Petre, Gregg Pond, and Chad Westerholm. We have supported church planting in New Jersey, France, Australia, and Ghana. We continue to reach out to share the good news of Jesus and to provide a spiritual family for followers of Jesus.
